If you have not yet signed up to Twitter and are yet to be convinced of what a useful marketing tool it can be, here is a little something that may help convince you.
An article on Emarketer describes how Etsy crafts a recession success. Matt Stinchcombe, VP of Communications at Etsy, a platform for selling handmade goods, describes their figures for February 2009 as $10.3 million of goods sold. 690,000 items sold, 132,000 new accounts added and recorded 437 million page views for the month.
And here is the interesting bit, he says "Twitter has become the third-largest referrer of traffic to our site."
Etsy sells a wide range of hand made goods including quite a lot of fashion and accessories. If Twitter can work for Etsy, perhaps it can work for you. Why not have a look at their Twitter profile to see what they are doing.
